After Years of Injustice, Al-Kadhimi Acknowledges Errors in Qi Card Case Amid Abu Ragheef Committee Heavy Record

After years of injustice surrounding the case of Qi Card owner Bahaa Abdul Hussein, former Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi has acknowledged errors in handling the file during the period of the Abu Ragheef Committee, reopening the question of responsibility for the measures taken at the time.

The committee that operated under Al-Kadhimi government did not end through an ordinary administrative decision. Its legal foundation fell following a Federal Supreme Court ruling that invalidated and annulled the Diwani Order creating it, after extensive controversy over its powers and methods of operation.

The gravity of the file has been reinforced by international journalistic reports addressing allegations of torture, violence and forced confessions within the committee operations, followed by government moves to investigate alleged violations attributed to officials and officers from the previous period.

Against this background, admitting error in Bahaa Abdul Hussein case is not sufficient on its own. It should mark the beginning of a clear process of redress capable of removing the effects of injustice from the owner of Qi Card and protecting the company standing from the consequences of that period.
