Agricultural expert Adel Al-Mukhtar explained that Iraq possesses all the essential elements to achieve self-sufficiency in many strategic crops, thanks to its fertile lands and human expertise. However, he noted that this goal faces major challenges, including weak agricultural policies, declining government support, and the continuation of unregulated imports that harm local products. The expert emphasized the importance of addressing the water scarcity crisis by adopting modern irrigation techniques and reducing waste. He called for providing soft loans to farmers and securing production requirements at subsidized prices to ensure the agricultural sector transforms into a fundamental pillar of food security and economic development.
