Al-Sudani Receives High-Level Delegation from the European Union to Discuss Security and Migration Files

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani received today a high-level diplomatic delegation representing the European Union, headed by the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, at the government headquarters in Baghdad. The meeting focused on discussing ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in combating terrorism and extremism, as well as coordinating efforts to address the phenomenon of illegal migration across Iraqi borders. Al-Sudani affirmed during the meeting that Iraq attaches great importance to strengthening its relations with EU countries, noting that Iraq's stability constitutes a fundamental pillar for the security of the entire region. For his part, the European delegation praised the significant progress achieved by Iraqi security forces in securing borders and pursuing dormant terrorist cells. The two sides agreed during the meeting to hold a joint conference in Brussels next June, aimed at bringing together donors to support reconstruction programs in liberated areas. They also discussed facilitating entry visas for Iraqis wishing to travel to EU countries for education and tourism purposes. The joint statement issued at the conclusion of the meeting affirmed the necessity of continuing the strategic dialogue between Baghdad and Brussels.
