Apple announced the appointment of Johny Srouji as Chief Hardware Officer, a move reflecting the company's desire to strengthen its custom silicon strategy and the integration of hardware and software. This appointment comes as part of a wide organizational restructuring ahead of John Ternus assuming the CEO position next September.

Srouji is considered one of the most prominent engineers in Apple's history, having joined the company in 2008 to lead the development of the A4 chip, Apple's first fully custom-designed processor. Over the years, he led his team to achieve breakthroughs in multiple areas including Apple Silicon processors, batteries, cameras, storage controllers, sensors, displays, and cellular modems.

Current CEO Tim Cook noted that Srouji is one of the most talented people he has ever worked with, confirming his pivotal role in transforming the company's strategy toward custom silicon that gives Apple a clear competitive advantage in performance and energy efficiency.

This appointment is expected to enhance integration between hardware engineering and silicon technologies, paving the way for a new generation of AI-powered smart devices and strengthening Apple's ability to compete in the smartphone and tablet markets.
