BlackRock CEO: Skilled Trades Better Than Office Jobs in Automation Era

Larry Fink, CEO of global asset management firm BlackRock, stated in his annual letter to investors that skilled manual trades (such as plumbing, electrical work, and construction) currently constitute a smarter and more stable career choice than many traditional office jobs, given the rampant evolution of artificial intelligence.

Fink noted that automation algorithms and AI software will primarily and immediately threaten administrative, accounting, and basic programming roles. Conversely, professions that require physical skills, interaction with the physical environment, and on-site problem-solving will remain completely insulated from this technological threat for years to come.

Fink called on governments and educational institutions to redirect investments toward vocational and craft training programs. He warned of a severe global shortage of skilled labor at a time when millions of graduates are competing for office jobs that are shrinking in number day by day.
