Coordination Framework member Abdul Samad Al-Zarkoushi excluded the assumption of civilian figures to manage the security ministries in the upcoming government, pointing to the existence of initial understandings regarding the criteria that should be available in candidates for these sensitive portfolios.
Al-Zarkoushi said that the past days witnessed widespread circulation of names nominated to assume the security ministries through social media and some media platforms, including the proposal of civilian figures to occupy those positions, but he believes that the nature of these ministries requires figures who possess specialized military and security backgrounds.
He explained that managing complex security files requires accumulated experience, strategic vision, and the ability to deal with security challenges at various levels, which makes it difficult to assign these ministries to figures who do not have sufficient field or security experience.
Al-Zarkoushi clarified that there is a preliminary agreement among political forces on three basic criteria that must be available in candidates for the security ministries, represented in possessing a military and security background, political independence, in addition to the candidate being known for his national track and enjoying political acceptance and consensus.
He pointed out that an important meeting will be held this evening to discuss the security ministries file, especially by the Coordination Framework forces, expecting that the next forty-eight hours will witness decisive developments that may lead to resolving the names of candidates and determining the date of the confidence-granting session for the new government.
This political movement comes in light of the continued intensive consultations between political forces regarding the distribution of ministerial portfolios, amid special interest in the security ministries, which are considered among the most sensitive files in forming any government, due to their connection with security, military, counter-terrorism, and internal stability files.
