dijlahpoint - The Parliamentary Legal Committee revealed on Wednesday (September 9, 2026) the key details of the new Counter-Terrorism Law draft, which Parliament completed its first reading of, confirming that it annuls the current Law No. 13 of 2005.

Committee member MP Mohammed Al-Khafaji said the new draft is far more expansive than the previous law, most notably setting a detailed definition of the terrorist crime and broadening the description of terrorist acts to include multiple actions with tightened penalties.

He added that the law provides for compiling a list of terrorists in which the public prosecution registers names involved in terrorism, who would be barred from many rights such as travel, passport issuance and employment, noting that the draft includes detailed and aggravated penalties ranging from execution to life and temporary imprisonment according to the criminal act, with amendments to be made after the second reading and the opinion of the relevant committees.
