The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, has expressed his desire to assume the role of United Nations Secretary-General, emphasizing a practical diplomatic approach focused on crisis resolution rather than public criticism. Grossi is competing to succeed António Guterres against prominent international figures, including former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet, alongside other officials from Costa Rica, Ecuador, and Senegal. Grossi stated that the UN's success requires maintaining open communication channels with all parties, warning that policies of isolation complicate opportunities for solutions. Meanwhile, Guyana has nominated its UN ambassador for the position, a move that coincides with growing calls for a woman to lead the organization for the first time in its history, as well as efforts by Latin American countries to secure the post based on the principle of geographical rotation.
