Hossein Ali Haji Deligani, deputy head of the supervisory committee in the Iranian parliament, confirmed on Tuesday (May 5, 2026) that Iran possesses a high-capacity "cluster" missile, each of which can transform into 80 separate bombs after launch.
Deligani stated in a statement that if ten missiles are launched at the same time, we are talking about 800 bombs, pointing out whether any air defense system, such as THAAD or Patriot, can intercept this number, referring to the two famous American air defense systems.
This statement comes at a time when the unprecedented war is escalating between Iran on one side, and the United States and Israel on the other, with continued maritime tension in the Strait of Hormuz and exchange of power messages between the two sides, while this weapon is revealed amid a highly tense phase following the mutual attacks since February 28, which led to fundamental changes in engagement rules.
Iran has sought in recent weeks to establish a new deterrence equation, including direct threats to close or restrict passage in the Strait of Hormuz, in addition to repeatedly revealing missile capabilities and long-range drones.
