Iraqi Minister of Communications Mustafa Sanad and his Iranian counterpart, Sattar Hashemi, held bilateral talks to discuss cooperation in the telecommunications and information technology sectors. The meeting focused on coordination during major religious pilgrimages, and exchanging expertise in cybersecurity, digital transformation, and electronic payment systems.
The Iraqi side highlighted Iran's advanced capabilities in cybersecurity and its reliance on sovereign domestic applications for navigation, tracking, and digital payments, noting an agreement to form joint technical committees to transfer successful practices. The discussions also touched upon the physical infrastructure connecting the two nations through six vital fiber-optic border crossings: Shalamcheh, Al-Sheeb, Badra, Al-Munthiriya, Bashmakh, and Haj Omran, alongside ongoing coordination on key mutual interests.
