A comprehensive national afforestation campaign was launched across various Iraqi governorates, targeting the planting of two million diverse trees within a single season, as part of the "Green Iraq" initiative launched by the Ministry of Environment in cooperation with civil society organizations and local municipal departments. The campaign includes planting pine, olive, palm, and sidr trees in desert and environmentally degraded areas, aiming to combat desertification and reduce temperatures in major cities. The Minister of Environment affirmed that this initiative is not merely a seasonal event, but a long-term program extending over the next five years, with monitoring mechanisms in place to ensure tree survival and continuous care. He also called on citizens to participate actively by planting trees in front of their homes and in residential neighborhoods, stressing that every tree planted represents a step toward a cleaner and safer future for coming generations. Specialists hope the campaign will contribute to improving the local climate and reducing dust.
