The General Commission of Customs announced on Saturday (May 23, 2026) the arrival of the first international overland transit shipment under the global (TIR) system at the Al-Waleed border crossing, coming from Syria and heading to the State of Kuwait via the Safwan crossing. Customs procedures, including the auditing and verification of seals and documents, were completed with high flexibility and efficiency inside the designated yards under the direct supervision of the Commission's senior management, paving the way for the shipment's transit through Iraqi territory per applicable regulations. This step is considered a strategic achievement that contributes to accelerating trade movement, reducing costs and time, and activating international transport corridors to enhance commercial connectivity among neighboring countries, in line with comprehensive automation and modernization plans for border crossings.
