The Iraqi Communications and Media Commission announced the granting of official operating licenses to three local telecom companies to begin offering 5G services in the capital Baghdad and Basra province. This launch is considered a qualitative leap in the country's telecommunications sector, as the new networks will allow download speeds up to ten times what is currently available on 4G networks. The Commission's Chairman explained that the upgrade process included updating tower infrastructure and equipping it with advanced devices compatible with International Telecommunication Union standards. He also affirmed that the planned package prices will be competitive and affordable for citizens, with special packages offered for students, government institutions, and academia. The first phase will cover vital, commercial, and industrial areas in both cities, with the service expected to expand to other provinces successively over the coming year. Specialists hope this step will contribute to attracting new technological investments and providing job opportunities for Iraqi youth.
