In this context, officials and experts in the agricultural and water sectors confirmed that the exacerbation of the crisis is due to climate change and the water policies of neighboring countries, primarily the expansive construction of dams without regard for fair quotas. Parliamentary and governmental bodies warned that the continued decline will severely damage the agricultural sector, increasing reliance on costly imports. They emphasized the urgent need to adopt comprehensive national strategies, including modern irrigation techniques, water recycling, and rainwater harvesting. Official reports also indicated that the current year is considered one of the driest in decades, given the decline in water inflows to the Tigris and Euphrates basins and the drop of strategic reserves in dams to critical levels.
