Ministry of Electricity Launches Campaign to Remove Grid Violations Following Massive Power Losses

The Ministry of Electricity revealed on Friday a significant gap between actual power production and growing demand, announcing the launch of a widespread campaign to remove illegal connections to the national grid in Baghdad and other provinces, in coordination with judicial authorities. The Ministry explained that current production stands at approximately 20,000 megawatts (MW), while actual demand exceeds 62,000 MW. It noted that energy losses have surpassed 55% due to violations and technical waste, confirming that the national grid has lost around 7,000 MW amid recent regional events. The Ministry urged citizens to cooperate with its engineering teams and settle their financial dues to support grid stability and reduce the deficit.
