Ministry of Water Resources Constructs New Barriers to Combat Water Hyacinth in Dhi Qar Rivers

dijlahpoint - Engineering and technical teams are continuing their work to install water barriers in various areas of Dhi Qar Governorate as part of a broad campaign to combat the spread of the water hyacinth plant, which obstructs water flow. The Ministry of Water Resources announced the initiation of new barriers on the Euphrates and Gharraf rivers to limit the spread of these aquatic plants. The works include installing barriers near Dhi Qar University, and in the districts of Karma Bani Saeed, Suq Al-Shuyukh, and Al-Fuhud, in addition to the Gharraf River north of Al-Rifai city. These measures aim to clear water bottlenecks, enhance flow efficiency to ensure water reaches beneficiary areas, and protect the environmental and biological diversity of the water bodies.
