Concerns are mounting in Iraq over the widening gap between higher education outputs and job market demands. This is largely driven by the rapid expansion of private universities and colleges, along with a surging number of medical and health graduates, raising alarms about unprecedentedly high unemployment rates. Parliamentary sources have called for an urgent comprehensive review of educational policies, particularly in the pharmaceutical field, which produces thousands of graduates annually from approximately 100 specialized colleges, contrasting sharply with the highly limited absorption capacity of government health institutions. Concurrently, the Ministry of Planning confirmed its efforts to develop a comprehensive national strategy aimed at harmonizing education with economic demands through precise metrics. The Ministry also emphasized the importance of activating the private sector's role to mitigate the worsening crises of unemployment and poverty, which are closely tied to the nature of the rentier economy.
