Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani Reviews Government Achievements in Farewell Address

Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani delivered a farewell address to the Iraqi people as his term nears its end, reviewing the most prominent achievements accomplished during his tenure since October 2022. Al-Sudani affirmed that his government launched from a "dangerous political turn" and managed to steer the country away from dire consequences, adding that the government program was based on five main priorities: combating corruption, fighting poverty, addressing unemployment, financial and administrative reform, and providing services. He noted that investments exceeded 114 billion dollars, and the government succeeded in operating and processing 3,250 lagging projects, while raising electricity production to 29,000 megawatts. Economically, he announced achieving self-sufficiency in iron, fertilizers, cement, sugar, flour, and cooking oil, in addition to localizing the pharmaceutical industry. Socially, he revealed the inclusion of 963 thousand new families in the social protection network, contributing to reducing poverty indicators from 25% to approximately 10%, and lowering unemployment from 16.5% to 13.5%. He also mentioned reducing external debt from 13 billion dollars to about 10 billion, and cutting annual inflation from 7.5% to 2.7%. Al-Sudani emphasized that these achievements were the result of combined governmental and popular efforts.
