The security team of a cargo ship in the Gulf of Aden successfully thwarted an approach by a boat carrying five armed individuals on Saturday (May 23, 2026). This marks the second such incident in the same area within less than 24 hours. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported that the captain of a food products tanker signaled the approach of a small craft to within 100 meters. The ship's armed security team intervened, firing warning shots that forced the boat to alter its course and move away. The agency advised vessels to transit with caution and report any suspicious activity while investigations continue. This incident follows a similar attempt just a day prior, north of Socotra Island, where armed individuals were forced to retreat after warning shots were fired from an oil tanker.
