The General Authority for Meteorology and Seismic Monitoring forecasted that the country will be exposed to a dust wave starting next Friday, May 15, noting that its intensity will be high in some areas. The Weather Forecasting Department report explained that numerical weather model outputs indicate that western and central regions of the country, in addition to southwestern parts, will be affected by a dust wave ranging in intensity from moderate to dense. The report confirmed that the wave results from the surge of a moderate-temperature air mass accompanied by active northwesterly winds with gusts ranging between 50 to 60 kilometers per hour. It clarified that the impact will be strong in desert and exposed areas, where a significant decline in horizontal visibility is expected, reaching less than one kilometer. It noted that the dust impact will extend with less intensity to the rest of the country's regions during the late hours of Friday's afternoon and evening, with continued wind and dust activity at varying intervals in central and southern regions during Saturday daytime. The Authority called on citizens, especially drivers on external roads and patients with allergies and asthma, to exercise caution and take necessary precautions to protect against the effects of the dust wave.
