Signing of an International Treaty to Regulate Deepfake Technologies and Synthetic Content

Over eighty countries signed a historic international treaty today in the Swiss capital, Geneva, aimed at establishing a global legal and regulatory framework to mitigate the risks associated with Deepfake technologies and AI-generated content. The treaty obligates all social media platforms and tech companies to embed irremovable digital watermarks in any content generated or modified by artificial intelligence, to ensure information transparency and combat disinformation campaigns. The agreement also stipulates the creation of an international monitoring agency to share information on emerging digital threats and prosecute criminal networks that use these technologies in financial fraud or extortion operations, in a serious effort to protect public trust in the digital space.
