dijlahpoint - The Supreme Judicial Council held a meeting on Wednesday chaired by Council President Judge Faeq Zidan, in the presence of a number of security and judicial officials, the Minister of Justice, and the Deputy Foreign Minister for Multilateral Affairs and Legal Affairs, to discuss the file of foreign detainees and convicts transferred from Syria to Iraq.

According to a council statement, the meeting addressed formulating a unified Iraqi vision for the file, after the Karkh First Investigation Court completed the investigation stages and interrogation of the detainees and moved to the trial phase.

The statement added that the meeting concluded with the adoption of a unified position on handling the files of convicts and detainees, by processing each file separately in accordance with bilateral agreements between Iraq and the countries to which those concerned belong, and based on Iraqi laws and the principle of reciprocity.

It noted an agreement that the National Center for International Judicial Cooperation would consider any initiative or offer presented by the concerned countries or international organizations regarding the provision of aid and assistance to Iraq in this file.
