The Workers' Syndicate Union in Basra Province mourned on Friday a worker who lost his life while on duty after descending into a transmission line at a sewage station in the Internal Security area, central Basra. The Union's President, Ahmed Fahmi Al-Khafaji, emphasized that the loss of any worker on the job is not merely a passing incident, asserting that workers' safety and their right to a safe working environment is a paramount responsibility that cannot be compromised. The Union called on governmental and relevant authorities to launch an immediate investigation to determine the causes of the incident, hold the negligent parties accountable, and verify the implementation of occupational health and safety standards, as well as the availability of rescue equipment at worksites. The Union affirmed its commitment to following the course of the investigation to ensure workers' rights and the strict application of safety regulations, expressing its deepest condolences and sympathy to the deceased's family and colleagues.
