dijlahpoint - The "ENDA" environmental organization has warned of severe environmental and economic consequences resulting from food waste, emphasizing that discarding food represents not only a financial loss but also increases pressure on water, soil, and natural resources while driving greenhouse gas emissions.

Marking the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste, the organization stated that environmental protection begins at home, noting that food waste corresponds to wasting the water, energy, and land used in production. It highlighted that agriculture and livestock account for nearly 70% of global water consumption.

The statement added that decomposing food waste in landfills generates methane gas, significantly harming the atmosphere. Estimates show that over 1.05 billion tons of food are wasted globally each year, accounting for 8 to 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions. The organization urged targeted actions, including rational purchasing, organic waste sorting, and donating surplus food.
