The spread of stray dogs in Iraqi provinces has evolved into a health and security crisis causing widespread societal concern, amid increasing incidents of dog bites and the risks of transmitting infectious diseases such as rabies. In this context, veterinarians and specialists confirmed to Dijla Point News that the crisis reflects a structural flaw in solid waste management and weak municipal services, noting that traditional solutions like random culling campaigns are no longer effective. Experts called for the necessity of adopting a comprehensive national strategy involving the Ministries of Health, Environment, and Municipalities, based on sustainable sterilization and vaccination programs, and improving waste management to reduce attractive environments. This approach aims to strike a balance between protecting citizen security and animal welfare principles.
