Integrity Commission Thwarts the Waste of 7.5 Billion Dinars and Arrests 4 Employees in Middle Euphrates Electricity Sector

The Federal Integrity Commission announced on Monday the successful prevention of a massive waste of public funds amounting to over 7.5 billion Iraqi dinars, leading to the arrest of four employees at the General Company for Electricity Transmission in the Middle Euphrates.

In an official statement, the Commission detailed that a specialized joint task force from the Karbala Investigation Office, in collaboration with the Iraqi Engineers Syndicate in the province, conducted an inspection of a company-affiliated warehouse. The operation revealed that the storage facility was operating unofficially, lacked standard regulations, and was completely devoid of security cameras. Furthermore, valuable state-owned materials and equipment were found abandoned on public roads, highly vulnerable to theft and degradation.

The statement clarified that specialized committees immediately inventoried the secured materials, with the company estimating their total value at exactly 7,462,729,177 dinars. Preliminary investigations confirmed that these items were surplus materials from direct-execution projects. The accused employees had attempted to exploit these resources for personal gain at the expense of the public interest.

Consequently, a formal seizure report was documented, and the four suspects were referred to the judge of the Karbala Investigation Court, which specializes in integrity cases. The presiding judge ordered their immediate detention under Article 331 of the Iraqi Penal Code, pending the completion of further legal proceedings.
