Iraq Nears "Zero Breaches" as Parliamentary Security Committee Confirms Continued Pursuit of Sleeper Cells

The Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee confirmed that the war against sleeper cells affiliated with ISIS has not yet ended, despite the significant improvement in the country's security situation in recent years. A committee member explained that Iraq is experiencing its best state of security stability compared to previous years, noting that most security sectors have reached the stage of "zero breaches" as a result of continuous security and intelligence efforts. He added that this stability was not coincidental, but rather the fruit of intensive intelligence work, particularly regarding tracking blacklists that include prominent leaders and elements of terrorist organizations. He stated that security agencies managed over the past eighteen months to neutralize sixteen high-value targets who held leadership positions within ISIS's structure, confirming that security forces continue their operations to eliminate the remaining cells of the organization, especially second and third generation leaders. He explained that the number of sleeper cells inside Iraq has become very limited, but the nature of the threat requires maintaining intelligence momentum and not relaxing, noting that the danger of ISIS is not limited to Iraq alone but extends to some neighboring countries. He pointed to three fundamental pillars that contributed to enhancing the success of security operations: citizen cooperation, societal rejection of extremist ideas, and continued intelligence strikes and accumulated security expertise, explaining that these factors helped deliver effective blows to terrorist organizations and significantly reduce their activity. He confirmed that security efforts also succeeded in limiting the electronic recruitment file through social media platforms, which was previously used to attract extremist elements, noting that this file has become nearly concluded as a result of continuous technical and intelligence follow-up. Iraq continues to implement extensive security and intelligence operations to track down the remnants of the organization and prevent the reformation of its cells, within a strategy that relies on proactive work and coordination between various security and military agencies.
