dijlahpoint - The Iraqi Higher Maritime Authority, affiliated with the Ministry of Transport, announced on Wednesday that it continues its steps to enhance the maritime safety system, through field follow-up of the implementation of the Port State Control (PSC) system, ensuring that ships entering Iraqi ports comply with safety requirements and international maritime standards.

According to a statement by the authority, implementing the Port State Control system represents an important step in developing the maritime oversight system and ensuring ships' compliance with international agreements and rules in force, enhancing the safety of lives and property and preserving the marine environment.

The authority added that the field tour included following up on inspection procedures and implementation mechanisms, verifying ship readiness and safety equipment, and the extent of their compliance with international requirements, as well as monitoring seafarers' conditions, working conditions, and procedures related to marine environmental protection.

It noted that these procedures come within an ongoing program to develop the capabilities of its inspection staff and raise the efficiency of ship oversight, in line with the requirements of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and international best practices in maritime safety and security.
