The Security Committee in Nineveh Governorate has settled the debate over the recent wave of fires affecting agricultural areas. The committee confirmed that investigations revealed most of the fires were caused by farmers burning wheat crop residue in preparation for the upcoming agricultural season, categorically denying any terrorist or criminal motives. It explained that the fires spread out of control due to the wind, resulting in material damage with no human casualties. Strict warnings have been issued to farmers against burning residue to prevent similar disasters, following a massive mobilization of civil defense teams and service departments to contain the blazes and protect properties.
