The Civil Defense Directorate announced on Thursday (May 7, 2026) the recovery of the bodies of seven victims following a horrific traffic accident in Diwaniyah Governorate.

The Directorate stated in a statement that in a painful human tragedy, civil defense teams in Diwaniyah Governorate successfully completed a harrowing recovery operation for seven victims who lost their lives in a violent collision in Al-Badair district between a Yukon SUV and a trailer truck.

It added that with high professionalism mixed with feelings of grief, rescue teams rushed to the accident site immediately after it occurred, making exceptional efforts to remove the bodies from the wreckage of both vehicles.

It indicated that the victims were subsequently transferred to the Forensic Medicine Department in accordance with applicable legal procedures.
