The competent Criminal Court in Diyala Governorate issued severe prison sentences of ten years against three convicts involved in financial corruption and embezzlement. Investigations proved that the convicts abused their official positions within the governorate's administration to embezzle funds allocated for compensating the families of martyrs and wounded victims of terrorism. This was executed by forging hundreds of fictitious cheques and transferring the money into operational advance accounts. The sentences were handed down in accordance with prevailing penal codes pertaining to embezzlement and complicity crimes.
