The Border Ports Authority has inaugurated the new site of the Shalamcheh border crossing, a vital land route connecting Iraq and the Islamic Republic of Iran, as part of preparations to facilitate the influx of pilgrims. The opening ceremony was attended by high-ranking parliamentary, security, and government officials following the completion of comprehensive reconstruction and infrastructure development carried out by the local government of Basra. The Authority stated that these upgrades align with government directives to elevate border crossings to modern international standards, thereby enhancing trade exchange, reducing congestion, and providing optimal services to travelers while enforcing rigorous security and organizational measures.
