A report issued by an observatory specialized in economic affairs and transparency revealed that the value of funds recovered by government authorities in their latest anti-corruption campaign exceeds the monthly salary expenditures for several government ministries and agencies. The report explained that the total recovered cash reached approximately 390 billion Iraqi dinars, following the conversion of substantial foreign currency amounts into the local currency. It added that factoring in the value of the recovered gold assets, which amounted to about half a ton, raises the total value of recovered funds to over 482 billion Iraqi dinars. The observatory noted that this amount surpasses the monthly payroll expenses of key ministries and is roughly equivalent to the monthly salaries of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' entire diplomatic staff. The observatory affirmed its full support for efforts to recover public funds, while emphasizing the need to enhance transparency regarding the announcement of recovered assets and the mechanisms for their future allocation and management.
