US Military Announces Enhanced Security Zone in Strait of Hormuz

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced today, Monday (May 4, 2026), the establishment of an "enhanced security zone" in the Strait of Hormuz to facilitate the passage of commercial vessels and restore freedom of navigation in this vital waterway.

The command clarified that this mission, directed by President Donald Trump, aims to support commercial ships seeking free passage through the strait, through which a quarter of global oil trade passes by sea, in addition to large quantities of fuel and fertilizers.

Admiral Brad Cooper, Commander of US Central Command, stated that supporting this defensive mission is essential for regional security and the global economy, while maintaining the naval blockade at the same time.

The command indicated that military support will include guided missile destroyers, more than 100 land and naval aircraft, multi-domain unmanned platforms, and 15,000 service members.
