dijlahpoint - The Strategic Policy Institute (SFP) held a dialogue session in Baghdad on Tuesday (September 15, 2026), through its specialized arm the Strategic Center for Economic Policies and in partnership with the Iraqi British Business Council (IBBC), to explore the prospects of economic and development relations between Iraq and the United Kingdom under the title (Towards a Strategic Iraqi-British Partnership: Building a Shared Economic Future). The session, chaired by the institute's president Dr. Mohammed Husam Al-Husseini, featured a high-level group of British experts, diplomats and executives, led by former British Ambassador to Iraq and Oxford Center fellow John Wilks, and IBBC Administrative Director Christoph Michels, whose interventions focused on developing trade and institutional relations between Baghdad and London and enhancing the engagement of international companies in the Iraqi market. The dialogue also included former British Army and UN commander and TurnKey CEO Brigadier James Ivery, alongside the council's Baghdad office director Ali Mashkour, to address security issues, infrastructure and investment protection, and post-conflict reconstruction. Discussions covered ways to transition bilateral relations from traditional frameworks to sustainable strategic partnerships, increase the volume of British investment in Iraq, and provide a secure and attractive economic environment for capital and modern technology. The institute affirmed it will publish the full executive summary of the session and the resulting policy paper at a later stage, to be submitted to government bodies and decision-makers in support of the country's economic development plans.
