The supreme security command in Baghdad has issued a package of preventive recommendations and guidelines directed at citizens and institutions, in cooperation with the Civil Defense Directorate. This initiative aims to reduce the rates of fire outbreaks in conjunction with the significant rise in temperatures during the current summer season. In its official statement, the command emphasized the necessity of taking personal and public safety measures, primarily evacuating vehicles of highly flammable materials such as lighters, compressed aerosol cans, and portable batteries before parking them in open areas. It also advised leaving vehicle windows slightly open for ventilation and avoiding travel during peak heat hours, warning of the dangers of completely filling fuel tanks or over-inflating tires. On an institutional level, the command directed the intensification of joint supervisory committees' work to conduct precise inspections covering commercial complexes, hospitals, large warehouses, and gas stations. This is to ensure they meet safety conditions and have modern firefighting equipment available. The guidelines also included warnings against leaving gas cylinders in direct sunlight, and recommendations to reduce electrical loads and avoid using poor-quality extension cords to minimize the risk of electrical short circuits. The command urged citizens to immediately report any emergency via the free hotlines to ensure a rapid response.
