dijlahpoint - Prime Minister Ali Falih Al-Zaidi sponsored on Saturday, September 12, 2026, the signing ceremony of a contract to develop and operate the Ajeel oil field between the North Oil Company and KEBT, within the Ministry of Oil's directions to maximize the utilization of the country's hydrocarbon resources.
A statement from the Prime Minister's Media Office said the contract, which extends for 25 years, aims to gradually raise production rates in the field, thereby enhancing oil and gas production and supporting Iraq's electricity generation system.
Under the contract, gas production is set to increase from approximately 135 million standard cubic feet per day to 300 million standard cubic feet per day, while oil production will rise from 30,000 barrels per day to 40,000 barrels per day.
The government affirmed that developing the field comes within the framework of seeking optimal utilization of oil and gas resources and enhancing energy security in the country.
