Human Rights Center Warns of Serious Environmental Repercussions of Armed Conflicts and Demands Addressing War Remnants

dijlahpoint - A strategic human rights center warned of the ongoing catastrophic environmental repercussions of wars and armed conflicts, pointing out that millions of square meters of land remain contaminated with war remnants, landmines, and explosives.

The center confirmed on the occasion of the International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War that the destruction of natural resources and pollution of water and soil pose a grave threat to the rights of future generations and the future of sustainable development, relying on UN and international reports documenting the scale of serious environmental and financial damages inflicted on the country.

It called on the concerned parties to intensify national and international efforts to clear mines and clean agricultural and residential lands to facilitate the return of displaced persons and advance the wheel of reconstruction and environmental and economic development.
